Community Outreach and Social Action
WUUC has been involved in a variety of social action and community
outreach activities over the years. Here are some of the activities
we have been invovled in over the years.
Welcoming Congregation
WUUC has been a Welcoming
Congregation since a unanimous congregational vote to be a
part of this program dedicated to creating congregations that are
inclusive towards
bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people and being visible
advocates for GLBT rights in our larger community. There are
several opportunities for members and friends to support this
effort such as attending Equality Day in Olympia and marching
in the local Gay Pride Parade in Seattle.
Blood Drives
Several years ago, local Cottage Lake
area churches gathered their resources and began organizing Blood
Drives that rotate to each church location. Several of our own
members
have benefited from the gift of life that donated blood offers,
so we are as dedicated as ever to this important cause.
Hopelink
Throughout the years we have been involved in various ways with
this local social sevice organization that serves homeless and
low
income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities.
We've collected food and held special collections. Individuals
have also contributed in their own way, including our own Matt
Wesley who serves on the Hopelink Board of Directors.
Habitat for Humanity
In 1997 WUUC took part in Project SHARE, a group of five local churches
who raised money for and constructed a duplex for two families that
would otherwise not have had homes.
