Committees are an important part of "making church work." They also a great way for us to get to know one another and develop bonds as we roll up our sleeves and work together.

Here are the current active committees at WUUC. Committees meeting times vary from once a month to once a quarter. Most meetings are held at WUUC on weekday evenings.

Committee on Ministry (COM)
The purpose of the ACM is to strengthen the quality of ministry in the congregation. Such a committee serves as a support group for the minister and as a communication channel between the minister and the congregation. There are four members of this council that are appointed by the board in consultation with the minister each fall.

Finance
These are our number crunchers. The finance committee develops the church budget as well as monitors the congregation's income, expenses, and pledge payments, and makes regular reports to the board and the congregation. They are busiest from January to May when they develop a church budget with committee input then revise based on the pledge drive results.

Insight (Adult Religious Education)
At WUUC we call our Adult Religious Education program “Insight.” As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that all religious education starts with the premise that we are all lifelong learners. As part of our first principle – an affirmation of the inherent worth and dignity of each person – we recognize the intrinsic need to stimulate our minds, energize our bodies and enliven our spirits. We seek and create personal growth and experiences that help us to live a more informed and productive life. We endeavor to make our adult educational opportunities holistic and transformational. WUUC offers classes, workshops and retreats that illuminate the mind, enliven the body and enrich the spirit. In doing so, we explore this wonderful Unitarian Universalist faith and why people through history have dedicated their lives to its life-affirming principles.

Building and Grounds
The focus of this group is on maintaining our church home. It oversees regular maintenance, repairs and cleaning.

Membership
This committee is responsible for contacting potential new members, welcoming newcomers, and recognizing and helping to integrate new members into the life of the congregation. They welcome visitors and suppor the Pathways to Memebership class offered to people interested in becoming members.

Music
This committee works directly with the choir director and minister to plan music appropriate to the worship theme.

Communications
This committee provides guidance and oversight for both internal and external communications to ensure we are consistent, professional and thorough. The Web site, newsletter and main church bulletin board are all produced by members of this committee. Getting the Word Out is PDF files describing the guidelines for various communication activities.

Pastoral Care Team (PaCT)
Your Pastoral Care Team (PaCT) is here to be a supportive listening presence for you  in times of challenge or celebration.  They assist the minister by listening to fellow congregants and/or planning small rituals for you.

Religious Education
Religious education has always been an integral part of WUUC. This committee works with the current RE director, Cathy Tauscher, to develop and manage a vibrant program for our children up to 5th grade

Stewardship

Worship
The primary goal of this committee is to support the minister with the Sunday services by facilitating the logistics of worship as well as assessing the quality of the services. With our current structure of a part-time minister, the committee has the responsibility of coordinating regular lay led and guest speaker services.

Youth Adult Committee (YAC)
This group meets to come up with ideas for programs and activities, to make sure that commitments are kept and projects completed, to select and supervise advisors, and to act as a forum for discussion of youth-related concerns in the congregation. It's made up of a representative from each grade level (6-12) and 2-3 adult representatives.
