Stan Crow

Stan Crow was a warm, loving optimist: Someone who inspired others by actively living his convictions. We at Woodinville Unitarian Universalist Church offer this memorial site to share among ourselves and with the greater community memories of this great individual whose life touched so many.

Stan started calling himself a Universalist 40 years ago while doing community organizing in Washington, D.C. By the time he became a charter member of WUUC, Stan had already been a signed-in-the-book Universalist member for 19 years. He served the church as DRE (1995 to 2002) as well as several other committees, including Worship, Membership, and Stewardship. Stan was active in national and district UUA work, having most recently served on the district Healthy Congregations Team. At the time of his death Stan was President of the WUUC Board of Trustees.

Stan was a skilled group facilitator, community-based educator, ritualist and Vision Quest leader. He enjoyed nature and singing. In 1985 he began serving as Director of Rite of Passage Journeys, where he gained extensive experience working with young people and training youth leaders. Beginning in 1997, Stan led a number of three-day seminars for Coming of Age Leaders in several UU districts and in Canada. In November 2006, Stan retired from his role as Director of Rite of Passage Journeys, although he continued to stay involved there as an elder, advisor, and lead instructor of the Coming of Age Leader's Training. He was recently developing a retreat program for elders titled "When Autumn Comes." Stan, along with his wife Carol, were founding members of Songaia Cohousing Community. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Stan believed in actively engaging seekers in spiritual growth and creative social justice work. He will be missed.

The WUUC community held a memorial service Saturday, November 21. Memorial service Gallery is available online.
For the larger community, Stan's family is planning a memorial service at the East Shore Unitarian Church in Bellevue on January 9th. Details will be posted when finalized. You may send cards to the family c/o WUUC, P.O. Box 111, Woodinville, WA  98072.
