What should we wear to church?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing! Some of us wear "business
casual" while others wear jeans or even shorts. Children may have
art projects or outdoor activities. They should dress so they can actively
engage in the program.
Is there childcare/Sunday school during the church service?
If my child doesn't separate well, can she or he stay with me in
the service?
Certainly. Or, you may choose to attend class with your child if
that works best at first. In addition, if your child becomes restless during the service, we have an area where you may take your child and still hear the service through speakers, without disturbing those around you.
Are you genuinely welcoming to all people?
We are a Welcoming Congregation. Go to the UUA Welcoming Congregation page for more about being a Welcoming Congregation (site opens in separate window). We are a home of free faith and
religious diversity. We gather to worship honoring our differences
in age, race, gender, ability, class, sexual orientation, and national
origin. We trust that the unique and beautiful qualities that you bring
will be celebrated and appreciated. While saying so doesn't make it
so, an important reason we come together is to remind ourselves of
what we value. And because we value human diversity, we include the
voices of all people – in our readings and music, our RE classes, and
our leadership.
What goes on during the Sunday service?
A typical Sunday service lasts about on hour and includes announcements,
a chalice lighting, singing by the congregation, singing by the choir
(usually twice a month), a sermon or speaker, meditation/prayer, an offering
and a simple benediction. Wonderful music is offered each week by various
musicians in our church community. We
also have a time for sharing of joys and sorrows when members and friends
are invited to light a candle and briefly share a joy or sorrow they
are experiencing in their life. Sometimes there may be a special program
(such as the children's holiday pageant or a theatrical presentation)
and/or special music.
After the service we
gather for coffee (or tea) and conversation.
Do you have service all year?
